The book is the most in depth depiction of the life of a Probationary Inspector of the Royal Hong Kong Police (RHKPF) during the 36 months of his first tour of duty contract from 1982 to 1986. The book covers his nine months of training as well as how he tackles the law and order issues that existed at that time in the Hong Kong melting pot, which was a much different place than it is today. Everybody wanted to better themselves, be it legally or illegally, working hard and playing hard, grasping opportunities as quickly as they could in what was a 24-hour city always on the go!This book is published in 2022, the 40th Anniversary of the Inspector's arrival in Hong Kong, and also the 25th Anniversary of the Handover of Sovereignty of Hong Kong to Mainland China in 1997.
The author worked for the Royal Kong Kong Police Force and the Hong Kong Police Force for 33 years between 1982 to 2015. In retirement he has worked as a consultant both in Saudi Arabia on the Hajj Railway and for two security firms undertaking reviews of event and venue security and compliance and internal control. He was also Head of Security at one of South East Asia's biggest concert and convention centres. He has been a keen sportsman having represented British polytechnics and Hong Kong at swimming and water polo respectively. He is a keen trekker and has undertaken the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal and the Hong Kong Trailwalker on no less than five occasions each. While in the Royal Hong Kong Police Force he undertook and completed selection for the elite units of The Special Duties Unit, The Airport Security Unit and the VIP Protection Unit.
