Join Artist Rachel Smith for a bookbinding class with a difference! This style is particularly useful for creatives who care about practicality and sustainability. Using recycled materials - Manila envelopes and recycled backing boards and watercolour paper inside, this easy-to-make book is perfect for on-the-go sketching while travelling around the city and beyond! Once finished, the pages of the book are removable, making this the most flexible style of bookbinding ever! The best part is, the design is so simple, you can make more on your own once the class is finished. The finished book will be 10 x 15 cm when closed. Suitable for ages 8+.

Host/Teacher:

Rachel Smith is a multidisciplinary artist based in Hong Kong. Having lived in Hong Kong for 20 years, her current collage and paper-cutting works are a love note to the city that has shaped so much of her adult life. Smith started cutting paper seriously in 2019. In her studio, she collects and collates the paper ephemera of a life lived in Hong Kong, then cuts images of the city. She passionately believes that the arts are essential to creating lasting solutions to problems. Smith is the producer of Hong Kong Stories and the host of their eponymous podcast. She can usually be found in her studio, telling stories on stage, organising shows, or going on long, rambling walks around the city.
